Addressing Food Insecurity: Mobile FARMacy Partnership

Lone Star Circle of Care (LSCC) is partnering with the Central Texas Food Bank to provide free nutritious food for our patients. The Food Bank’s Mobile FARMacy, a grocery store on wheels, visits our Taylor and Bastrop clinics weekly to provide patients the opportunity to shop for fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and more, at no cost.

In 2023, the Food Bank launched the mobile FARMacy program, which makes it possible for healthcare providers and other organizations to “prescribe” nutritious food and for neighbors to access those prescribed items onsite in the mobile FARMacy pantry. All food on board meets USDA MyPlate standards and are considered “Foods to Encourage”. This initiative furthers our commitment to improve health outcomes beyond our clinics.

Lone Star Circle of Care’s dedicated Community Health Workers (CHWs) help identify patients who need assistance with food and connects them with this resource. The goal is to have at least 40 people shop at the mobile grocery store each time it visits their respective clinics. Patients can visit LSCC’s Taylor and Bastrop clinics on the following days and times:

The pilot program has provided healthy food to more than 350 patients since our collaboration with the Food Bank commenced in February 2024. Together, we’re cultivating a vision where access to nourishing food becomes a pillar of holistic well-being, breaking down barriers for many in our community. To participate, you must be a patient and appointments are required.

This partnership with the Central Texas Food Bank is one of the many ways Lone Star Circle of Care is working to improve the non-medical drivers of health.
