Lone Star Circle of Care has resumed mammography screening services with a new and improved Big Pink Bus. The mobile mammography unit is replacing the previous Bus, which was retired in November 2023.

The almost 34-foot-long new Bus arrived in Georgetown last month, where the Big Pink Bus team and other LSCC staff excitedly welcomed it. The new unit will provide more reliability to the team as they travel throughout Central Texas to provide low-cost and free breast cancer screenings at our clinics and community partner locations in Bastrop, Bell, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson counties.

The 3D breast imaging equipment from the old Bus was transferred to the new Bus for a seamless transition for our highly skilled Mammography Techs. In addition to the high-tech equipment on the Bus, there is an improved layout that was designed with the comfort of patients and staff in mind. The layout creates a better workflow for the onboard staff and gives patients more privacy with a larger changing room that is connected to the mammography room.

The lifesaving mission of the Big Pink Bus is to reach underserved communities to provide women with access to high quality mammograms. These important screenings can detect breast cancer in its early stages when treatment is the most effective. Since LSCC began operating the Big Pink Bus in July 2021, the team has traveled more than 22,000 miles and performed more than 4,700 high-quality 3D mammograms.
