Lone Star Circle of Care Celebrates New Clinic in Former Taylor School
(February 23, 2022) TAYLOR, Texas — Lone Star Circle of Care (LSCC), a clinic system with a network of 27 locations in Texas, is pleased to celebrate the opening of Lone Star Circle of Care at Taylor West End School, with an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, February 25, 2022, beginning at 3 p.m.
Housed in the former Taylor West End School, the 8,000 square foot facility located at 1301 West 4th Street, Taylor, Texas 76574, offers a new service delivery model that bridges health care and community-based support services. Through a collaborative effort, the facility addresses the environmental, behavioral, and social conditions that affect the health of underserved residents in East Williamson County.
“The West End School building has always been a benefit to the Taylor community, from its days focused on education to its new life providing health care and community-based support services. We are grateful that City leaders entrusted us with this revitalization project,” said Jon Calvin, Lone Star Circle of Care CEO.
This community landmark was revitalized and transformed into a clinic with nine exam rooms and two behavioral health offices estimated to serve over 5,000 patients annually. In addition, the facility houses a senior center and a Meals on Wheels program operated by Opportunities for Williamson & Burnet Counties. Head Start and Early Head Start, additional programs of Opportunities for Williamson & Burnet Counties, operate in a building immediately adjacent to the revitalized Taylor West End School clinic.
The West End School, home to thousands of Taylor elementary school students from the 1920s until the 1980s, faced an uncertain future. Recognizing the need for access to an integrated community-based health service model, the City of Taylor donated the former West End School to LSCC. With stakeholder and collaborator support, LSCC renovated the West End School allowing the campus to house several programs that address and support improved health outcomes.
Medical services are available at the site Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Behavioral Health services will be added soon. Appointments are available by calling 877-800-5722. Most insurances, including Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP, and WilCo Care are accepted. For individuals without insurance, a sliding fee scale based on household income and size is available. For those who qualify, LSCC can assist with enrollment in Medicaid, CHIP, Marketplace, SNAP and other programs.
This project was made possible through a collaborative effort with Opportunities for Williamson & Burnet Counties and the City of Taylor, with financial support from St. David’s Foundation, Episcopal Health Foundation, Williamson County, Carl C. Anderson Sr. & Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation, and Jack G. and Gwen Kennedy Hunnicutt. Clayton Korte led all architectural services with input from the Design Institute for Health, a collaboration between Dell Medical School and the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. IE2 Construction, Inc. led all renovation and construction efforts.
