Million Hearts is a national movement with an ambitious goal of preventing 1 million heart attacks and strokes over 5 years. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), a partner in Million Hearts, recently recognized Lone Star Circle of Care as a national Million Hearts leader based on the organization’s performance in 2016. This recognition is based on exceeding benchmarks on 3 clinical metrics: aspirin therapy, blood pressure control, and smoking cessation interventions. Per HHS, only 215 of the nearly 1,400 community health centers in the U.S. have achieved this recognition.
Did you know that every year Americans suffer more than 1.5 million heart attacks and strokes? Heart attacks are the # 1 cause of death in the country, and strokes are the #4 leading cause. Cardiovascular disease is responsible for 1 out of every 3 deaths in the U.S.
