Texas Hospital Association Conference Highlights FQHC Collaboration

Collaboration was on display earlier this week at the Texas Hospital Association’s Conference and Expo in downtown Austin. Lone Star Circle of Care (LSCC) CEO Jon Calvin participated in a panel discussion with Thomas Wm. Jackson, CEO of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center. The topic was about Improving the Health Status of Your Community. Moderated by Sarah Churchill Llamas, J.D., Jon and Thomas spoke about the collaborative relationship between hospitals and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), highlighting their own partnership as an example.

Jon explained the close proximity between LSCC’s clinics and hospitals is useful for patient care coordination noting partnerships with several hospitals in Central Texas cities. LSCC’s highest utilized service lines on or near these hospitals are OB/Gyn and Pediatrics. Some campuses have Family Medicine and Integrated Behavioral Health services as well.

“One of the well-known benefits is getting the right care, at the right place, at the right time”

-Jon Calvin

During the panel discussion, Jon highlighted the benefits of FQHC and hospital collaborations. Some advantages included, ER diversion to reduce overcrowding in emergency rooms, care coordination, shared resources in labor and delivery, as well as referrals.

LSCC is proud to collaborate with local hospitals to improve health care for Central Texans.
