Happy National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist’s Day! Today we would like to highlight LSCC’s dietitian, Victoria Luera. Last week she started the first of six nutrition education classes for type 2 diabetes at our clinic in Taylor, TX. These classes are available to patients living in Taylor with a current diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The sessions will be held every Thursday at 5:30 pm and will challenge participants to actively engage in a safe environment to better learn how to manage their chronic condition. Participants receive current scientific-based nutrition recommendations and guidelines, as well as a healthy snack for joining.
The goal of this program is to increase knowledge surrounding diabetes management, decrease biochemical markers associated with diabetes, such as hemoglobin A1C, and improve overall quality of life. While this first pilot program is being conducted in English, there are plans of future sessions to be held in Spanish, as well as in different parts of the Austin-area.
The first class focused on understanding diabetes and how it affects the body. For a list of future class topics and dates, please see below:
- March 9, 2023—Diabetes and Nutrition I: Understanding the Food Groups
