Branching off last week’s Wellness Wednesday tip, one of the best ways to save money and eat healthy is to buy produce that is in season. In the month of September, the following fruits and vegetables are currently in season in Texas:
Fruits
Persimmons, figs, pears, melons, watermelon, summer squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet peppers, hot peppers, and eggplant
Vegetables
Carrots, onions, baby arugula, sweet corn, green beans, and fresh peas
*Fun Fact: All produce containing seeds are considered fruits even though we may think of certain foods like cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes as vegetables because they have less carbohydrate content and are not as sweet as typical fruits.
