What are Community Health Centers?

Community health centers started during the 1960s civil rights movement. The Office of Economic Opportunity set up “neighborhood health centers” to provide health and social services to the medically underserved. The clinics received federal funds to help ensure extensive community involvement and quick response to community needs.  Since inception, community health centers have remained a vital provider of primary care and public health services. To learn more, watch this video on the history of American’s Health Centers!
