If you’re behind on your child’s routine healthcare, it’s not too late to catch up! Prioritize your child’s well-child visits, immunizations and sports physicals as part of your back-to-school routine to contribute to your child’s overall well-being and readiness for the school environment. Back-to-school services include well-child checks, routine immunizations and sports physicals.
Most Greater Austin and Houston schools will be back in session from mid-August through early September. While completing back-to-school appointments prior to the start of school is ideal, children can be seen at Lone Star Circle of Care at any point during the year. Lone Star Circle of Care offers appointments at numerous locations across Central Texas and Houston.
Well-Child Checks
Consistency in well-child visits helps to establish a health baseline for your child and to build a relationship with a healthcare provider. Early detection of possible health or development challenges allows for timely intervention and support. Many schools require a certificate of health for enrollment in an effort to keep the overall community safe. Older children and teens benefit from mental health assessments to address any concerns heading into the school year.
Update Vaccinations
Routine vaccines such as MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella), DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis), Hib (Haemophilus Influenzae Type B), Polio, Hepatitis A & B, PCV (Pneumococcal Conjugate), Rotavirus, Chickenpox (Varicella), Flu (Influenza) and COVID-19 play an important role in protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases. Adaptations to viruses such as COVID-19 and Flu mean Central Texas needs to keep its vaccinations and boosters up-to-date to fight the most current virus strains circulating. Schools often require proof of vaccination for enrollment to ensure the safety of all.
Sports Physicals
Sports physicals evaluate your child’s overall health to ensure they are ready to meet the demands of the physical activities they’re pursuing. Sports physicals also help to identify possible underlying health concerns such as musculoskeletal issues, asthma or allergies that might pose risks during physical activity. Sports physicals are typically required annually for most school sports. Sports camps and other private sports leagues may also require sports physicals. Plan at least 30 days ahead of sports registration to get your sports physical. This gives you ample time to complete your appointment as well as any other possible follow-ups.
